Charles Niles Pike was a respected marble sculptor from Massachusetts who was known for creating bas-reliefs of Abraham Lincoln and Henry Ward Beecher. During the Civil War, he served as a hostler in Company B, 10th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and was a driver for Generals Ulysses S. Grant, George B. McClellan, George Meade, Joseph Hooker, and Ambrose Burnside.
