Paul Herman Hilliard (1842-1914) of North Stonington, Connecticut enlisted as a Private in Company G, 21st Connecticut Infantry on August 20, 1862. He served throughout the remainder of the war and was mustered out on June 16, 1865.
Hilliard married Caroline M. Dewey in 1868 and they moved to Binghamton, New York where the first of their three children was born in 1870. The Hilliards returned to Stonington, Connecticut where Paul worked as an Inspector Agent. He died in 1914 in Westerly Rhode Island and is interred at River Ben Cemetery.
